If you have to make a fault claim on your insurance, you usually lose two years No Claims Bonus – so you’ll probably pay more when it’s time to renew. But some insurers will protect your No Claims Bonus for a small extra fee.
Is PNCB worthwhile?
Often - but now always. After a claim, your premium will probably rise even if your No Claims Bonus is protected. This is because van insurers consider your driving record as a whole, and drivers with a recent fault claim tend to pay more for their van insurance than those who haven’t.
Will you be eligible?
A lot of people don’t think of protecting their bonus until they’ve made a claim and had their bonus reduced. Unfortunately, it’s then too late – you usually need to have built up a maximum No Claims Bonus before you can protect it.
What if you move to a different van insurance company?
If you have sufficient claim-free years, your new insurers should be able to protect your Bonus. However, if you move insurers following a claim, you may find your new insurers won’t protect your No Claims Bonus for at least another two years.
Our advice is to check the policy details when you get a quote. They should help you decide whether a Protected No Claims Bonus makes sense for you. |
