Common causes of road accidents
Most road crashes involve human error which can range from genuine mistakes to illegal behaviour. Causes of road accidents vary as much as the drivers behind the wheel, but here are the most common ones we found: |
| Speeding |
More than 700 people a year are killed when someone drives too fast. Drivers travelling at high speeds have less time to identify and react to what is happening around them. It takes longer for them to stop. |
| Drink driving |
More than 450 people a year die in crashes which were caused by a drunk driver. |
| Careless driving |
Research suggests there are over 400 deaths due to careless and reckless driving. |
| Inexperience |
Research tells us that more than 300 newly qualified drivers and their passengers are killed every year. Driving experience can make a massive difference to the amount of accidents you have on the road which is one reason why older people tend to have lower premiums. |
| Loss of control |
This may perhaps come under careless driving but one third of fatal crashes involve “loss of control” of a vehicle. |
| Stay safe!! |
At Gladiator we regularly see how a couple of claims on your records can make such a difference to your premium. We want to ensure people are aware of the dangers there are on the roads and how it's so important to take care whilst driving. To avoid these claims and bumping up your premium take a look at our tips for safe driving: |
| Keep your distance |
Leave a gap! By leaving a gap this will increase your line of sight and allow you to brake if need be without hitting the vehicle in front. |
| Check the weather |
If it is bad weather and very hazardous then don't go unless it is necessary. |
| Be alert and more aware |
Visibility can sometimes be poor so it is vital you keep an eye out for pedestrians, traffic and any other hazards. |
| Avoid braking sharply |
This can be extremely dangerous especially in wet weather and let's face it we get enough of that in the U.K. |
| What to do if you have an accident |
We also know at Gladiator that you need business to continue back to normal after an accident, that's why we will give you a step by step guide on what to do in the event of an accident.
