Young van drivers can often find it difficult to obtain suitable insurance, as many companies will only offer cover for drivers who are aged 25 or over. However, thanks to leading van insurance broker Gladiator, this no longer needs to be the case. Gladiator is now offering cover for drivers from the age of 21, as it does not think that van drivers should be judged solely on their age. In fact this philosophy coincides with Gladiator’s own research into claims, which shows that drivers aged 21-25 years make claims less frequently than drivers aged 25-29 years.
Gladiator managing director, Chris Price, commented, “Our attitude is that as a young person, to become self employed and to deal with all the red tape that goes with this process shows maturity. Unlike a young private car driver, a young self-employed van driver has already demonstrated that they have the matured enough to become self-sufficient and this maturity we believe will have an impact on their driving attitude.
“Even a 21 year old who has been driving a van for 2 years has more experience than an older named driver that would use the vehicle once a month in an emergency.”
As an example, a 23-year-old male self-employed painter and decorator living in Kent, driving a 1998 Ford Transit would pay £630 for a years’ cover with Gladiator.
